Computing Systems Research Lab (CSRL)
Computing Systems Research Lab (CSRL)
The Computing Systems Research Lab (CSRL) seeks to combine advances from multiple areas of computer systems research to design and build novel technologies for the next generation of computing systems. CSRL researchers work across several areas, including programming models, runtime systems, large-scale network simulation, temporal models, routing algorithms for highly dynamic networks and fault tolerance for parallel systems.Laboratory for Advanced Scientific Computing and Applications (LASCA)
The goal of the Laboratory for Advanced Scientific Computing and Applications (LASCA) is to provide expertise and leadership in high-end scientific computing research and education at Virginia Tech. LASCA participants do basic research in numerical algorithms and software for high-performance parallel computation and assist scientists and engineers in applying high-end computing resources to their problems. By bringing together experts in scientific computing and its applications, LASCA helps build the kind of multidisciplinary teams needed to address today's most challenging computational science problems.Scalable Performance Laboratory (SCAPE)
The mission of the Scalable Performance Laboratory (SCAPE) is to leverage new technologies to improve the performance and efficiency of computing systems. Current projects focus on performance evaluation and prediction, power-aware computing, and memory analysis for high-end computing. The Systems, Networking, and Renaissance Grokking Laboratory -
The Systems, Networking, and Renaissance Grokking Laboratory conducts basic and applied research thatprovides scientists and engineers with computational tools that enable them to concentrate on their science and engineering rather than on the computer science and engineering. To that end, we explore a breadth of complementary intellectual activities that span the high-performance and enterprise-wide spectrum – from systems-level software to middleware to applications software to tools – in order to empower tomorrow’s cyber-scientists and cyber-engineers.Parallel Emerging Architectures Research Lab (PEARL)
The Parallel Emerging Architectures Research Lab (PEARL) explores miniature multiprocessors at the hardware/software interface and their implications on the design of large-scale systems. PEARL currently conducts basic research on programming and architectural support for improving performance, energy-efficiency and reliability on homogeneous and heterogeneous multicore architectures. This research explores novel models of autonomous optimization and adaptation of multithreaded code to dynamic execution conditions.Distributed Systems & Storage Laboratory (DSSL)
The Distributed Systems & Storage Laboratory conducts research in design, development, and evaluation of next-generation storage and file systems. The focus is on tailoring these systems for the growing data demands of modern high-end computing applications. To this end, DSSL members aim for innovation that ranges from large-scale distributed setups to specialized kernel-level optimizations.Software Innovations Lab
The Software Innovations Lab seeks to create innovative software solutions that facilitate the development and maintenance of the next generation of computing systems. Current projects range from improving middleware and architectures for distributed computing to developing novel software engineering techniques that deliver practical benefits to the programmer.Computational Science Laboratory (CSL)
